Mercer Residence

The Brief

A family commissioned a new hillside residence in the Hollywood Hills with sweeping views over the Los Angeles basin. The brief asked for a sophisticated modernist home that would feel iconic without being ostentatious — the kind of house that defines a specific moment in California living.

Our Approach

The house is a series of crisp white horizontal volumes stacked on the hillside, with the upper floor cantilevered dramatically over the entry. Floor-to-ceiling glass faces the city view on every main room. Inside, pristine white plaster, honey oak, travertine, and brushed brass. The principal bathroom soaking tub sits directly in front of the city view.

The Outcome

A house where the LA basin sunset becomes the daily ritual — from the pool deck, the bathroom, the bedroom, and the dining terrace beneath a bougainvillea pergola. The owners' Lamborghini sits in the driveway against the pristine white facade. The architecture and the city light belong to each other.
